Here are several questions that you should know prior to getting involved in any home based business opportunities.

1. Is the company a start up or been established for a few years?

Going with a start up is risky. I would suggest not going with a start up in a home based business opportunities as there’s a very good chance they will be out of business in less than 5 years.

2. Will the company be privately owned or public?

Surprisingly many people don’t even consider this when getting started. I will only partner with privately owned companies because I do not want the company controlled by stock holders. I believe the owners are more committed when private. Besides, I don’t want to end up developing a nice residual income in a home based business opportunity, only to see it disappear in a few years.

3. Is the company well financed or will they being incurring substantial debt?

This is important and can be difficult to get. Most private companies today will share that they are debt free. I know with our company they have repeatedly stated that fact and its most reassuring.

4. What type of products or services will the company be promoting? This is a big one and will decide whether the company is viable or not for the long term. In other words, will people order your products or services?

5. Does the company manufacture the majority of their own products? I think this is very important because by controlling who does the manufacturing, you also can control the price point and quality of the products.

What type of compensation plan and how much are they going to pay out?

This is extremely important because if its too low, developing a home based business opportunities and creating a residual income will much more difficult. On average a fair compensation plan pays 50 percent of the volume of product sold. Some network marketing companies brag about paying out 60 to 70 percent. That is simply too high and the company will go out of business.

By all means be sure this is what you really want to do before you plunge into a home based business opportunity. Look into the many small business resources to understand what owning and running a business means. If you are looking for a challenge and genuinely want more than just a job, a home based business opportunity can be just what you are looking for.
